Curious to see two different references in two different contexts I can recall the last couple of days (buried in here somewheres) about storm warnings and evacuations for a few thru the U.S. Embassy. While the overwhelming view all the way back to the beginning seems to be everyone was caught completely off guard with no warning and no opportunity to even make the decision to possibly evacuate. The whole big time politics - and legal ramifications - of storm warnings, evacuations, "official" government wx data versus actually better (maybe) private industry wx data, is a huge horrible mess here in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Sure seems like its pot luck with their predictions. Mitch and Keith were the only ones I have ever followed mile by mile, but it does seem like the tracking guesses are stupendously random.

you can look at 30 tracking maps that show that NW movement that didn't happen forever.

i think a reasonably intelligent monkey could do as well.

I think it's important to realize that this is 'an act of God'! With all of our equipment and all of our knowledge, all we can come up with are predictions! As humans, we are not 'all knowing' or 'all powerful'. Just like floods, tornados, and earthquakes, the path and strength of a Hurricane can only be predicted. Sometimes these things happen without warning. It's no one's fault. People do the best they can to get through it.

Personally, I thought weather reporting was much more accurate before everyone got all their new radar toys. Maybe we just ought to go back to the Farmers Almanac
