It was mentioned in a recent post that someone saw a seahorse at the dock in front of O'Farrell House. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen seahorses in the San Pedro waters and where.

Yes, near Ramon's dock.

And in several other places close to shore.

Such as? Searched many a time under docks and in the seagrass roots of dredge sites, and still yet to see one - including several hour and a half dives at Hol Chan at slack water.

The only time I ever saw a seahorse was snorkeling off near Palancar in Cozumel. They are so tiny and delicate, but very cool looking.

Thanks for the tip. I'm more of a diver than a snorkeler, but this may give me some incentive to get out there and take a look around the docks. We always dive with the Ramon's dive shop and I've kidded the divemaster that he will get a big tip if he finds me a seahorse. Maybe I'll just have to find one for him! The only one I have seen was in Bonaire in about 30' of water in a grassy area. Well, that is except for the exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. laugh

I don't want to say publicly exactly where I've seen them as I have come across people who evidently would like to catch them and take them home with them. But I can say under the Yacht Club dock and the next one to the south.

I've always seen the most in Sargasso weed.Is there sargasso in BZ, or is it too far from the gulfstream. If not, I'd look real close in the grass beds. They will be pretending to be a weed.

Yes, there have been seahorses under the dock at Playador/E.C.B.R., the resort just south of the Belize Yacht Club. However they just put in a new dock and that prabably will make a difference. Will check it out when I go down the first part of August for the Costa Maya Festival. Have to pass out candy to the kids at the festival.
