Went out on a glass bottom boat (Reef Seekers) yesterday and while snorkling at shark alley got attacked by a sea turtle!!! No Joke! Guide was trying (and suceeded-thank you very much) to push him away from me while telling me to "swim that way". Wasn't sure what "that way" was so I just swam like h*** for the boat. Adrenaline rush, fear and terror!!! Managed, barely, to keep breakfast down. Wouldn't get back in the water at next stop. On the way back in I got sanity back and started to consider going back out. Went snorkling this morning off Ramon's pier. LOVED IT. Can't wait to go back to shark alley, probably tomorrow.
Guide said it is mating season and turtles are more aggresive now. I think he just wanted my OU T-shirt!!! Sorry that I have forgotten the name of the guide but I thank him from the bottom of my heart!
Anyone else have an experience like this?

Had a turtle a few years ago in Grand Cayman that refused to get far enough away for me to take his picture. couldn't get anything but his head in front of the lens. I think he wanted a handout, not clear if he had designs on my bod laugh

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt

A turtle tried to kiss me one spring. I thought it was cool and I was a bit annoyed when another diver scared it away.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Yes, I've seen it happen, twice.

Once about 10 years ago I was running a 35' charter boat. We were drift fishing about 40 miles offshore and accidently bumped a large Hawksbill with the boat. The turtle got furious, roaring like a lion and chased the boat. I stopped so everyone aboard could watch it. It swam up to the boat and bit it on the port quarter chine. Roaring the whole time. Sucker has teeth like 20 penny nails! It punched 2 holes in the side and 2 holes in the bottom with one bite. Good I carried a collection of wooden plugs!

Second time was last week in Belize. We were close to Hol Chan and came up on a hawksbill. The guide stopped so we could see it, The he says "wait, I catch for you". He bails out the boat and chases the turtle around for a minute and comes up riding his back. I was thinking of my previous mentioned encounter. Well, he rode the turtle around for a minute and the turtle started roaring and hissing like previous mentioned. When the guide turned lose, the turtle turned on him and started chasing him around, and around, and around, with apparent intentions of biting his head off. It took the guide several minutes to shake him and get back in the boat. If he had been any less of a swimmer, I don't think the story would have a happy ending!

Too bad the turtle didn't catch the guide. The guide shouldn't have been chasing the turtle and riding on his back in the first place.
