Hi! We are four late twenties grad students heading down to Ambergris Caye for an active holiday week in August. Where would you recommend to stay?

We are looking at the Belizean Shores, Seven Seas, The Palms and Paradise Villas. It seems like Belizean Shores has the most activities (kayaking, biking, sand volleyball) but that it was a boat ride from town and that it didn't have a walk-in beach. Is it worth it? Or is there a better option? We'd like to be able to head into town to sample the cuisine and nightlife, and still be able to make it (cheaply!) home...

Two of us are divers (just back from the Great Barrier Reef!) and it sounds like there is a lot of excellent diving - how varying are the prices and does it matter who we go with?

Two of us are more interested in snorkeling, taking some day trips to visit ruins, etc... Should this influence where we stay?

Any other non-families heading south between August 22 and 28?

Check out www.belizeisfun.com. Nice location, nice accommodations, beach bar on site, restaurant on site, new dive shop has just went in, and a 10 minute walk from town (if that).

Thanks so much for the opinions... Keep them coming! Sounds like to be part of the party, maybe we should think about someplace closer to town. How easy is it to rent kayaks, bikes, etc?

Try Xanadu. South of town within walking distance and free kayaks, canoes & bikes to guests. Banana Beach, The Palms, Ramon's, Exotic Caye, Blue Tang would also be good choices.
