We are coming to AC over Christmas - mainly fishing (hubby and 10 year old son) and relaxing (me) but wouldn't like to miss the fabulous snorkelling we've read so much about. As we are complete novices to snorkelling and would only be doing it on our holiday we were just wondering if there is a snorkel gear shop on AC or whether we should get ourselves set up with snorkels and goggles before we come. Looking forward to it BIG time!!!
Hi. Protech has a gear shop in the centre of town that sells anything you'll need for snorkelling or diving. Good range of makes, models and prices, and competitive with UK and USA. Or you could go to the Dive Show at the NEC at the end of October.
There are many places that offer snorle trips and most have gear that you can rent. I personally like having my own mask and snorkel and if you wear glases you can get a mask with your perscription so you won't miss any of the wonders you will go to see. I have snorkeled other placed and just can't find much better or easier snorkeling than off of Ambergris Caye, especially for the novice snorkeler. Even my 4 year old grandson had a good time in the waters. Kat
Good point about corrected mask lenses - if you need these get them before you come. We can cope with long sight with stick-in magnifying lenses, but not at all with short sight.
My husband took an old pair of his RX glasses and set them inside the snorkel mask - he said it worked just fine. For as seldom as we snorkel this was a pretty thrifty fix.
Thanks everyone for your tips. Shall take them all on board - looking forward especially to seeing the nurse sharks underwater - my son is fascinated by them so I think he'll be in his heaven!
