First off this board is great and you guys have given me a lot of insight on what to do and where to eat. Coming down for ten days over xmas and I love to fish. I definitely plan on at least one charter trip but at $150 a pop I liked to do some fishing from the beach too. I've read not many people fish from the shore. Is this true? Is there any spots I can go North of the Cut?

The beaches are public, but the docks up north are not. Just a leisurely stroll mid-morning and late afternoon will get you some bonefish/jcks/snappers. Medium spinning and some small jigs in white/pink/tan will do plus a couple of rapala-types. Have fun.

Rugger: Take Horse up on that. Most docks have deeper areas dug out, the bones move into and out of them. You can usually see the flashes.

Can you experienced fishermen assist 19 year old fly fisherman? We are coming on Norwegian Sea, Dec. 22. Ship is in port from 7 until 5. There are 4 of us, and everyone is telling us that we will not have enough time to get to Ambergris. We would rather not fly, and the ships tour to Shark Ray alley advertises time for shopping. Should we do the water taxi from Belize City? Can son find any bone fish? Any assistance, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi
Son and I are coming down for 10 days and looking to do some fishing also. We are down dec 30 to jan 10. First time down your way and definately want to shore fish. I was thinking of bringing down my pocket fisherman. What weight line and what should I use for bait or artificial bait for what i can catch on the beach/docks.
And if anyone has a dock with good fishing let us know
Thanx
Jim

just a note fishing can spoty from the piers ,tide wind ,some times very good ,some a waste of time ,all depends where you are located ??up ,north there are can be lots of bone fish off the beach as well on some of the docks or south also some bones some ,snapper's off some of the docks ??ulta light tackel 4to sixlb test or lite spin rods and reels 8 to 12 lb test works for the bites bait use ,shrimp or conch ,or small sardines are best bait or you can use small lures ?? you got to check where you can fish ,,as some hotels like the fish to hang aroung for the snorkelers and frown on you catching them ??? check first ..I go each month and go out on a boat to the reef with capt bicho rivero fishingsanpedro.com a great guide and he has a great crew to pamper you .. lots of action ,good value compared to state side prices and super duper fishing ,you get action galore ,love the guy.. he helps make my vacations special ..go see my past fishing posts I write one almost each month .love to fish here in sanpedro..... tight lines and good fishing to you.. ..any more questions ???; e mail me at [email protected] will love to help you live the dream ..

T. Teacher: You can get a guide out of Belize City for 1/2 or 3/4 of a day. Although AC is great to fish, the entire country is top-notch. Alot of my fishing is 445 minutes south of AC and we'll often run into Belize City guides. Jesinmo: The Capt.s got it right. Leave the pocket rocket home. It'd be worthless on anything other than 10"snappers anyway. Get a guide and you won't be sorry.

I recommend SeaSports for fishing from Belize City. www.seasportsbelize.com or call them at 011-501-223-5505. I would definitely book in advance for Dec 22.
