According to local folklore having conch shells in your house brings bad luck. If you listen to them they call for the ocean.

Just a local superstition.

I think Belize has enough shells to go around without considering it stealing.

Thought my departure taxes was included in my ticket to El Salvador and it was, as far as leaving Belize went, but not El Salvador where they charged me $28. Thanks for upping the amount to $35 Barb. Guess I was not wanting to remember. Saw your pictures from your last visit by the way, great shots. Thanks for sharing. And yes, I have a friend here that goes crazy if there is a shell even close to his house. But according to the Mayans you can't sweep out dirt after dark, and according to the Garifuna you can't do this or thaat......and they can put a bug on you
