I've done a lot of snorkeling, but never at night. What kind of light do you use?? Is a big light better than one of those little ones that clip to your mask?? Also, is there anything to be on the lookout for at night that might be lurking out there in the dark eek I'm just a tiny bit paranoid........

It is great, don't miss it. you see things that don't come out during the day like shrimp, squid and octopus. the divers below will light up all of the good things to see on the bottom and you will have a flash light for snorkeling on the top.
things to be on the lookout for at night that might be lurking out here in the dark: ernie, bill thornton, peter, denny, paisano

Cindy J,

I did my first nite snorkel in Akumal Bay in Mexico last August.
I had a small waterproof (2 AA cell) flashlight and it worked OK.
I just got a new larger one (2 D cell) for Christmas. I plan on bringing it with me to AC in April.
You can get them at WalMart for under $10.

Aha! Thanks ya'll! laugh I was wondering if anyone knew of a guide and I forgot to ask! I'm excited! Unfortunately I'm not going until June. We are staying at Brianna's beach house!

We were in AC last April and did our first ever night snorkel with Tulu (if you do a search on his name you can find out how to find him) - We hope to book a full day and a night snorkel again with him when we return in April. I thought I would be a little scared, but it was awesome, and with Tulu you a very safe. We saw some super cool eel, trunk fish, octopus, and a reef shark, but from a distance, and more that I can't even remember. Definately put it on your list !!!! We brought waterproof lights that we gave to him when we were done, and have bought several more for the return trip, you can find them at most stores like Target, K-mart. I thought such a small light wouldn't be too good, but they worked perfect for us. I don't think you want too much light or you will frighten the night creatures into hiding anyway. Have fun !!
