Where would you suggest taking my 11 year old son for dinner in San Pedro. He loves Smoothies. A friend told me to take him to Cocina Caramba. Would that be a good choice?
Also, she told me to go to the Amnesia Cafe. I never heard anyone at this board talk of that particular restaurant. Where is it located? I personally think she had Amnesia when she was in San Pedro. She is not keen on answering a lot of my questions and doesn't seem to remember too much about her trip. I hope it doesn't have to do with the rum punches since I plan to partake it the delicious beverage often.

Island Mom: Any restaurant in San Pedro would be fine. Also, take him to the local street vendors. Wonderful food for cheap prices. I'm sure he will enjoy the surroundings.

Have fun!

Amnesia Cafe disappeared a couple of years ago. No one seems to remember where it went. It was across the street from Rasta Pasta, which is gone too. Seems to me it was gone long before Cocina Caramba came along, so I don't see how your friend could remember both on the same trip.

Hi Island Mom, the age of 11 is grand! I'd suggest taking your son to Fidos for dinner. You'd have live entertainment everywhere and kids as well as adults love entertainment!
There is music, tourists, locals, LOTS of charactors comin and goin... depending on the night all kinds of action can be happening, not bad food and a great island ambiance. This would be my first choice to recommend to any tourists with age differences. wink
We dine at many other places, but I do think this would be a good match for you and your son 1st time on Island.
Enjoy Ambergris Caye!

Thanks for the suggestion about Fidos. I will ask my co-worker/friend about her memory regarding Cafe Amnesia/Cocina Caramba. This should be an interesting story! She claimed her favorite place to eat in Amergris Caye was Cafe Amnesia. I thought it was the name she loved. I asked her if she had a drinking glass from the place. Her response was to just smile!

I just showed my son the web site for Fidos. He can't wait for me to take a photo of him standing underneath the shark, on the ceiling, with some feet sticking out of its mouth. For some reason he thinks this will make a great story for his fellow classmates!
Regarding my friend's story, I have an interest in getting a hold of that drinking glass! Unfortunetely, I have to wait until tomorrow!

There was a Cafe Amnesia - I think it was where the Stained Glass Pub is now. Non memorable (IMO)

Fido's would be a good choice for atmosphere - the food is inconsistent. Caramba's has great food so definitely put it on the list. Caliente is also great - sit on the patio. El Divino for wood fired pizza. Lots of great restaurants with kids. I hate to say it but the only one my kids did not like was Casa Picasso since they didn't want pasta and everything else was too "gourmet" or spicy - and service was way too slow. After we left there - we went to central park for hot dogs! (sorry Chris, but true!) They do have great desserts (and martini's for mom) though so maybe dinner or big lunch else where and then CP for dessert! Definitely try the street vendors too - greap cheap food - eat in the park or on the beach.

I belileve it was where the Stained Glass Pub is now. A couple of pleasant ladies, I think one of them was British or Aussie, and the fare was kind of New York Yuppie stuff. Ate there once in '00, and it was gone in '01.
