well here I am in Paradise(?) with no water or sewage -it is rumoured that the electricity will be off at three o'clock this afternoon-the unions are calling for a strike of all unionised personnel-this has come about because of higher taxes.the lowering of the income tax threshold/higher duties on beer wine and liquor/sales tax in creases etc. etc.-The British embassy has called me advising me to stay away from belize City as they are expecting the odd riot-maybe this will keep the cruise boat people away!

Whatever it takes to keep out the cuise ship people is worth it. Just wish they could find a better way to do it.

Anyone that has been in San Pedro for five years can survive without any utilities. We are used to not depending on most of them. By the way, isn't it amazing that over the last year or so, we have not had them cut off so often?
Just met four cruise tourists in Belize City yesterday. They were not impressed with Belize. How could they be after only seeing the city. I think thousands of people will go home NEVER to return after being on a cruise here.
I know the cruise industry is not good for San Pedro, but does anyone realize it is not good for Belize either?

I hesitate to even admit that my first exposure to Belize was on a cruise ship a year ago. We did not go into Belize City that day, but instead took a trip to the reef. As A result of that 6 hour trip, we just returned from a 12 day trip to the Cayo and AC and fell inlove with every inch we covered, including the Fort George area in Belize City. A cruise ship brought us there and we will be back! We still have the North and South to explore and we will never get enough of AC.

Sorry, I guess what I said above may have been insensitive to the residents of Belize, but I was thinking tourism when I wrote the above. IMHO, they will still come.

And... although I'm not a resident in Belize, I'm still PUP all the way and sorry somehow it's not working.

How interesting....I support a football (soccer) team in London, England. They play in blue and white. They have done nothing for me personally, but still I am a fanatic and loyal fan of them. But, I CAN say that they have not stolen from me or my friends and family.
The same cannot be said of the thieving crooks who are in charge of the government and who happen to be PUP. I voted for them at the last election. My loyalty is not so blind when it comes to politics and crime, especially when it is practiced with such a nasty contempt for the people of Belize who now have to pay for the "Usual Suspect's" incredible greed. There has to be a way to lock these guys up after they're voted out. Unfortunately I think what will actually happen is they will be given a free pass out of the country.

I'm sure they already have one foot in Houston or Miami.
