Travel Agents have voted Belize Best Adventure Eco Tourism Destination ­ Worldwide on the occasion of Recommend Magazine’s 8th Annual Reader’s Choice Awards.

Recommend Magazine conducts an annual poll that recognizes excellence in a wide range of categories important to vacation travelers. Over 1,200 travel agents responded to the write-in survey asking them to note their top choices in 47 categories. The winners were the destinations or travel products which received the highest number of votes in each category. The category of Adventure/Eco Tourism encompasses destinations that have an appeal to travelers who are looking for active vacations that include wildlife, nature and archaeological elements for which Belize received the most votes.

Categories included Best Selling Destination, Sexiest Romance/Honeymoon Destinations Worldwide, Best Adventure/Eco Tourism Destinations, Best Tour Operator, Best Airline, Best Resort/Hotel Chain, Best Cruise Line, Best Rental Car, Best Reservation/GDS System and Best Travel Agent Support. Participating countries included USA/Canada, Europe, Asia, Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, South America and the Middle East

As of recent, Belize was also recognized as one of the Top 10’s World’s Best Honeymoon Destinations for Snorkeling/Diving and Best Honeymoon destination for Adventure by Modern Bride magazine as revealed in its September 2004 issue. Additionally, Belize was also voted one of the World’s 50 Best Honeymoon Destinations in the World. These awards are based on a survey done by Modern Bride, in partnership with travel agents of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA)

It is their experiences in Belize that has allowed them to assertively nominate Belize in these polls,” comments Tourism Director, Tracy Panton. This is an important recognition that both the public and private sectors can be proud of as we continue to work together in achieving future success.”

Recommend Magazine is a monthly travel magazine designated to aid travel agents in selling travel and has a circulation of 55,000 in North America.

Belize was presented with a glass award to mark the event at the recently held Adventure in Travel Expo in New York this past weekend.
