I am going to AC in May. I believe I read somewhere that all the docks/piers in San Pedro are public, is this correct? So if where we are staying (the Palm house) does not have a dock we can just go some where else and swim. Come to think of it, does any one know if the Palm House has their own dock?
Thanks..

Sorry, it's the beaches that are public. Some piers are public, but most are private. If your hotel doesn't have its own, they'll likely have an arrangement for their guests to use an adjacent pier.

I've never been sure about this. Certainly the piers are privately funded, and quite a few have gates preventing free public access, but at the same time I have heard from a number of "experts" that all piers have by law to permit unrestricted access (albeit that law seems not to be enforced).

Anyone have definitive information?

I've read here several times over the years that the "left side" are public access and "right side" is private, for use of the owner. But don't quote me on that as being gospel. It does strike me, however, that it may have some validity. Think about it - picture your casual stroll up the beach, right foot in the water. Where are most of the boats tied up?

Stayed at the Palm house in 1996. No pier there, but there was a pier next door that we were able to use at the Lions Club property. Unfortunately, when down that way last year, Lions club dock was destriyed, I think by the hurricane. Unless they rebuilt the dock this year, you have a small walk to pier. Maybe Victoria house? Think theirs may have gates? Ramone's does let people swim and snorkel off theirs, not sure about the rules. That is quite a distance into town though. Hope this helps.

Thanks ilandhoper- I will write the property management company to inquire about the Lions Club pier. They should know. BTW, what were your opinions on the Palm house?

Palm house was great. Nice and quiet. AC worked good, Pool was very nice, decorating was nice. Quite a hike into town. Be sure you have or rent a golf cart. Spent a lot of time at the Victoria House bar, just a short walk up the beach north.
There is an additional 30 or so yards of beach there now and a few more homes built behind and around. The area was fairly desolate in 1996. Now built up a bit more. Enjoy.....

ilandhoper- thanks for your info. I was hoping you would give it a thumbs up. We do plan on renting a golf cart to get around. I will check out the Victoria house bar for you!!!
