i see on some maps that there are roads that lead a few miles north out of san pedro, but then they end...are there still roads that you could ride a bike on to explore further up north? -possibly to the northern most tip of the caye?

and on that note, are there pretty good mountain bikes to rent out there?

My kids and I consider ourselves strong bikers and over a three week stay on AC we hit about every road (and pothole) from the North to South. We rented from Joe's and the bikes were brand new (two adult/one child=$90bz a week). I didn't see mtn bike rentals. Beach riding is a must. If your up to it physically you'll have a great time/adventure. Rent for a day and "test the waters". Jeff

Several times a day we rode this seawall up to town. Scary yes, we loved the challenge.

You can rent bikes, but they all seem kind of 1960 to me, at least the ones I've seen, but if you are strong, go for it. Also nice is to have a good pair of reef walkers and head North along the beach. I've walked up to Capricorn, and back, and could have gone further. Enroute, good food at Sweet Basil or at Capricorn. Going South, you can walk a long way before you even need reef walkers. You can also rent a gold cart and go a long way if you want to see the tips of the caye.
