Greetings Boarders,

The Saga Humane Society has updated their "Wish List" of items needed to help provide care for the animals on the island. ANY donation is greatly appreciated and supports a very worthy and needed cause on the island. Great strides have been made thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and supporters but there is still a long way to go.

We are currently focusing our efforts on finding land to build a new clinic as it is unlikely that we will be able to stay in our current location for more than a few months as the property is for sale (and priced well above our means).

Meanwhile we are in the process of adding 7 new kennels to "Fort Dog", the adoption center by the airstrip (follow the road west from the Island Supermarket). We always have great dogs, puppies, cats and kittens for adoption and thanks to Kathy Marin from Pampered Paws many dogs have been adopted and sent to the States. Kathy has the process down to a science if anyone is interested in talking home a "Pot Licker".

For more information or to donate go to www.ambergriscaye.com/saga

Thank you all again for your continuing support!

The following is the "Saga Humane Society Wish List"

We will be in CC and AC next month. My wife and another of our party are vets and we would like to bring some of these items. Does anyone think we would have trouble with customs if we bring some of the items, especially the medications?

Stick them in an old vitamin or aspirin container and you'll be fine. Tourists are rarely checked if they go into the nothing to declare line. If asked, it's a donation and they can contact the clinic at 226-3266 or myself at 600-1033.

I would print this thread/wish list, and carry it with me, incase they searched and asked questions.

A very good suggestion! Except not that part about not declaring, I don't think customs would like that much.

Simon, My boyfriend and I will be in AC in May and will definitely contribute to the cause. Additionally we've read about bringing candy for the kids, is that welcomed and if so how much is "okay" to bring?

Hi FloridaBeachBum,

Sorry, missed out on your response earlier. While candy might be welcomed by the kids it may not be the most appropriate thing to bring.

Abuse of sugar is a big problem down here and most kids I know subsist on a diet VERY high in sugar (and caffiene.) There seems to be very little effort to educate both parents and children alike about healthy eating habits.

A better thing to bring down would be educational colouring books and the like with a focus on healthy eating (along with colouring pencils.)

Secondly I would visit the San Pedro Social Club Website ( http://www.sanpedrosc.org/ )and see if there is anything that you can do to support their efforts in building a school lunch program in San Pedro.

Simon, Thanks for the info, hadn't read that info anywhere!! We'll go to plan B and bring some things with a little more "value" to them.
