Rotisserie Grill, Specialty at Banana Beach's El Divino

If you love barbecue, fasten your napkin and raise your fork tines: you'll find a dream come true at El Divino Caribbean Steakhouse and Martini Lounge. And as El Divino's long official name suggests, you're also likely to find more types of martinis than you've ever heard of before.

Banana Beach's El Divino restaurant features both outdoor seating and indoor air-conditioned split level dining with high ceilings and unique local artwork. A spacious yet intimate setting creates a romantic ambience with exquisite menu presentations that taste as delicious as they look.

For breakfast, try oak smoked salmon on bagels and cream cheese, or belizean banana pancakes with whipped cream. For lunch, try a sirloin burger, charred beef carpaccio, or a gourmet pizza. For dinner, a "must" is the Brazilian-style rotisserie grill, a house specialty. Marinated and grilled beef, seafood, poultry, pork, vegetables and a few other surprises are brought to your table, presented on a skewer and served. It promises to be one of your most memorable meals in Belize.

Just inside the door at El Divino is an eclectic lounge where you can enjoy the island's largest selection of cool tropical cocktails and martinis. If you've never tried a martini, this is the place to start, with almost a dozen to choose from, including the James Bond Martini, Mudslide Martini, Almond Joy Martini, and the San Pedrini.

Banana Beach is located on one of the best stretches of beach on Ambergris Caye, just far enough south from the town of San Pedro for real tranquility.

Accommodations consist of one, two, three and four bedroom suites, with a full kitchen and living room area. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom. The two, three and four bedroom suites have jacuzzi bath tubs. The suites are all furnished with locally made Rattan furniture, decorated with ceramic art and hand-woven tapestries from the Yucatan.

All kitchens are supplied with cooking utensils, plates, glasses, appliances including a microwave oven, coffee maker, stove top, and refrigerator. All suites are equipped with air conditioning, two or more ceiling fans, cable TV, in-room telephone, and in-room safe.

The ocean front suites all have private ocean front balconies, and either a king size bed or two twin size beds in the bedrooms. The courtyard suites all have queen size beds in the bedrooms. In addition to the suites, Banana Beach has upper 2nd/3rd floor private ocean view balcony rooms and ground/1st floor ocean view veranda rooms. All suites and rooms have direct access to garden courtyards and swimming pool areas.

All snorkeling, diving, fishing, trips to the Mayan Ruins and jungle rivers can be arranged from Banana Beach. Kayak and wind surfing rental is available from the resort's dive shop, as well as golf cart and bicycle rental.

Chefrank was serving up some KICKIN' bar-b-que when we were there in January. It was a little pricey, but the Brazilian rotisserie was ****.

On the seafood side, the mixed Ceviche Grande is delicious and gigantic. And the rice and beans with stewed chicken is a steal at US$6.

My favorite is the Lobster mango pizza (cooked in the wood burning oven) & the Huevos Rancheros.

Oh boy, I'm getting hungry! I loved the filet of fish sandwich with a side of fries for lunch. The fresh baked bun and the very generous portion of fresh, deliciously seasoned fish filet was melt in the mouth good..Washed down with a cold Belikin and life is good!!
