Hi, I've never been to Belize before - I arrive in CC in 3 weeks - what kind of weather can I expect then? and... anyone know of the water temperature? If anyone that posts here is a diver would you suggest a 3mm shortie wetsuit or a 5mm full suit? ( I get cold easily, you could say I was a bit soft!) I don't want to have to carry both if possible. Thanks

You will either need no wetsuit or a very thin wetsuit.

Enjoy your dives!

The water was about 78 degrees F when I was there in January. I do most of my diving wearing just a lycra skin. If you truly get cold easily (which I don't), a 3 mm shortie should be fine. I usually take a shortie in case I do a lot of diving which lowers my body core temp. If you have a lycra AND a shortie, you could always wear both for more protection. The lycra alone also works for good protection against fire coral and thimble jellies, in case it's that time of the year. A 6 mm is way overkill IMHO...Belize is a long way from California water temps! Enjoy!

thanks - 78 degrees is pretty warm! I will stick to my shortie. your advice is much appreciated. Any advice on any 'must-see' dive sites?

I note from the weather report that the water temp was 82. Sunny almost every day.

I really like the wall dives, so I would consider any of those really good choices. I thought the Blue Hole was overrated, and other than the chance to go deeper than I had before, it wasn't really worth it, except for bragging rights. I went with Paradise Down dive shop, and they did 2 other dives that day, plus a nice lunch at Half Moon Caye, which was beautiful. Turneffe North was nice, as well as Long Caye. Shallower dives at Hol Chan were okay, but I'm really into the colorful corals and sponges so the wall dives are my thing. I've also dove with Belize Diving Services and they are also very good, but only do 2-tank dives, as far as I know. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to do more diving during my visits, so that's all I have to recommend!
