ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB ON THE MOVE
by Tina Auxillou ([email protected])

The Caye Caulker Environmental Club consits of approximately 20 members who are kids from Caye Caulker. The President of this group is Miss Mercedes Requena, seen here painting the mural. I asked Miss Requena what the group was all about and she said that the group was formed to raise awareness in the community about protecting our fragile environment and to help maintain the islands cleanliness and natural beauty.

Miss Requena says the group does a massive clean-up of the beaches about four times a year and another of the projects they do is to help beautify areas of the island. A perfect example is what they are doing today, painting beautiful marine murals on the front street Police Station's weathered fence. Some of the kids painted shells which they were giving as gifts to anyone who gave a donation to the club. The monies raised are used to buy paint & supplies to continue their beautification project.

Anyone feeling they might want to contribute art supplies to this wonderful new club can contact Miss Requena through the Chronicles.
