Any recent information on conditions in Belize City itself? We have family not only in Belize City but all over and are very worried. Anything new is greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone there and those of us here in the US with family in parts of Belize. My prayers are with you.

Just wanted to let you know that I was able to get a call in today to Belize City to my former Peace Corps roommate (a marine biologist with the Belize Fisheries Dept. and now married to a Belizean and owner of the Bakadeer Inn in Belize City). At noon CDT, they were stranded on the second floor of their little B'nB hotel (Cleghorn st.) and the waters were rising fast.
They're home just North of Belize was devastated and they have missing family and pets. I know there is a lot of conflicting information out there, but there is no bones about it... Belize central (the City and the Cayes) got hammered, and things could be much worse for the impoverished northern mainland districts.
I hope this good will extend to all the good people of Belize. Take care, Pepper

The last weather service reports said that the storm was dumping rain west and north of the city. From what I gathered from the reports they said some low lying neighborhoods were being evacuated and there was standing water at 4 to 5 feet. It sounded orderly and slow-rising though. The winds are moving north of there, so it should just be a matter of moving to higher ground.
