San Pedro, Ambergris will be open for some tourist business by mid week, around Oct. 11th. Water is running, electricity is there most places and the telephones and the internet should be viable this coming week. Debris will be around for a long time to come, but the tourist town, will be back in hotel lodging, drinks, air service, boat trips, restaurants and good times back again.

Caye Caulker is more problematical. It is estimated one month to six weeks to restore the infra-structure on Caye Caulker. But by Nov 15th, Caye Caulker will also be operational. If you can live without telephone and electricity, Caye Caulker will be back in the tourist business on the same schedule as San Pedro. Or at the most a few days longer. Certainly by next weekend. The holdup will be supplies. Restaurants will probably operate by candle light and the cooking is by Propane, so no problem there. Not sure if you will be able to get cold beer, but rum and coke certainly. Soon as they finish over at San Pedro this week, the GOB and private companies supplying the infra-structure are expected to hit Caye Caulker en masse. It should'nt take long after that to get everything back to normal. Barring the reconstruction of demolished homes of course. Debris on both islands is expected to take quite some time to finish cleaning up. But the most of it will be either !
pushed in piles or to one side, or stuck in lines out of the way.

The barrier reef is still there, the water is clear and the diving is superb. Bak Pak Hostel for Tina is out of the picture, but she still has the Travel Agency running. Can't phone her at present, or send e-mail. It looks like both islands should have a bumper winter tourist season on time.
