We intend to sail and dive around placencia next dec 15, but we had a look at the pictures after Iris and we just wonder if it's a good idea to go there for such tourism. does anyone have information about the situation including food and water supply, please sand details.
We have been there a few years ago and we really loved this fantastic country, but now we guess they need more help than tourists.

Actually those businesses who can are rushing to open in time for the Holdiays, and some are open already...

...and they desperately need the income!

Power seems to be pretty much back and should have running water by early-to-mid December.

Kevin Modera's site is probably the best place to look for current status of your favorite resort:

Thank you Lena,
We shall be in Placencia from dec 14 to dec 29, probably at Kittys, then on a Mooring's bareboat. If you live in Placencia, we shall be very happy to meet you.
Should you need anything from france, and we can bring by plane, please tell me

C'est un domage que vous partirez just avant j'arrive!

I get back to Placencia late Jan. 2, so I'll just miss you! What a shame, as I used to live in Paris (French ex-husband).

If you can extend your stay a few days (maybe get an inexpensive room from my friends Jodie and Norman Leslie at the Sea Spray Hotel in the Village -- tell them Miss Lena sent you) I'd be happy to give you a daytrip to Maya Centre Village at the Jaguar Preserve (more friends of mine... ;-).

You can reach me directly at [email protected].

If you plan to sail in the Placencia area you
might check out the cayes in the southern reef.

I visited Serenade Island Resort there and had a great time. They have diving also.

Excellent anchorage. A lot of big boats from
Honduras and Guatemala go there as well.

Enjoy
