BOCA RATON, Fla., March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Placencia Group and Canyon Acquisitions proudly announce that development has commenced on The Placencia Marina, a luxury superyacht destination. Serving as a key component to The Placencia's 6,500-acre master-planned development, The Placencia Marina is designed to be the largest full-service marina in Belize.

Opening Summer 2012, The Placencia Marina will ultimately consist of 263 slips, accommodating boats from 35 feet to over 220 feet in length. Phase 1 of the 27-acre superyacht marina will include 117 wetslips from 40 feet to 220 feet of which 14 will be dedicated catamaran berths. Planned marina facilities include a refuelling station, utilities, at-berth pump-out, crew-only recreation center and management services. The Marina Village at The Placencia will include a VIP Casino, multiple restaurants, retail shops, world-class spa and luxury boutique hotel.

"Our world-class project team is committed to creating an exceptional marina that will offer an experience unlike any other in the Caribbean," said Brad Miller, The Placencia Marina's Project Manager.

Marina Village real estate and boat slip ownership opportunities are available now on a limited basis with promotional and sales efforts launching March 24-27 at the 2011 Palm Beach International Boat Show.

"We're confident that our commitment to quality, superior location, and broad set of amenities, combined with the forthcoming opening of the Placencia International Airport, puts The Placencia in a class of its own," said Ryan Borland, Senior Vice President of The Placencia Group.

LOL. Who are these people that come up with these ideas??? I would guess the deal is already done on this (the way 'deals' usually get done here). What I cannot imagine is how they ok'd to DREDGE big time to have this kind of marina. It is very shallow around Placencia - no where near enough draft for boats this size. And do they plan on having immig/customs IN Placencia for boats to check in? Or do they expect them to check in at Big Creek (nasty) or Punta Gorda (another draft prob area)? Belize is not boat friendly at all to foreign boats--checkin and check out is time consuming and expensive and would need some major changes to make it 'boater friendly.' I sure hope the government hasn't made some $$ commitments to another project that doesn't seem feasible!

theres alot of questionable stuff going on there.
first is the by-law that there will be no piers/marinas on the east coast of the peninsula.
no 'groins' either.
the rock groins they are building right now conflict with the EIA that was submitted.
GOB claims to have no knowledge of any golf course or casino.
no EIA for anything cept the marina. not even the international airport??
