I agree with the recommendation for Lewis Auto. We use Lewis each time we visit and have never been disappointed in the service. The owner, Kevin Lewis is a native Belizean and runs a fine business. Two hours all the way to the village seems like a very optimistic driving time-- 3 and a half seems more realistic.
The Coxcomb Jaguar Preserve is on the way, but probably deserves a longer visit after getting to Placencia. If you're not going to be able to return for that, you might enjoy stopping off at the craft center in Maya Center at its entrance. I believe that they also now have a butterfly farm. There's a nice family run restaurant in Maya Center and an herbal garden.
