Offering a Wide Range of Sightseeing Opportunities and More

Just the name "Radisson" conjures up an image of the finest in vacation accommodations and hospitality - and as the only hotel in Belize to bear that name, the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina in Belize City delivers on that first impression.

In addition to two restaurants, two swimming pools, a fitness center, business center, airport transportation and a full-service marina with dive shop, the Radisson Fort George also offers a Jacuzzi, new café and high-speed DSL Internet connections in all or its 100-plus deluxe rooms (most with sea views. In addition, all public access areas of the hotel offer wire-less Internet service to allow guests to easily get connected to the World Wide Web.

Tours, activities and sightseeing anywhere in Belize can be arranged through guest services at the Radisson Fort George. A new tour operation has been added, with two licensed tour guides and a new, 10-seat passenger van. And for those who prefer a little less travel to do their sightseeing, Belize City itself has plenty to offer, including:

The only manual swing bridge left in the world; The oldest Anglican Cathedral Church in Central America, St. John's Cathedral, which was bilt in 1812 from bricks brought over as ballast in European sailing ships; The Lighthouse Monument at Fort George Point; The two-story, brick structure that houses the Museum of Belize - originally built as a colonial prison in the mid-1800s, it features displays on the history of Belize City and the area's rich Mayan ancestry. The Maritime Museum, located on the Belize River next to the Swing Bridge, which introduces visitors to a history of Belize's fishing and boat building industries; The National Handicraft Center, which features handmade crafts created by local artisans.

In September, guests at the Radisson can enjoy three weeks of celebrations in honor of the Battle of St. George's Caye, Sept. 10, and Belizean Independence Day, Sept. 21. The festivities include a street carnival, concerts featuring local and international artists, and a wide variety of musical concerts. The celebration reaches its climax on Sept. 21, with official ceremonies, a formal street parade and later, a street festival. The Radisson serves as guests' "home away from home" during these festivities, according to Patricia Lamb, director of sales for the Radisson Fort George.
