BEL HAS FULLY RESTORED POWER COUNTRYWIDE:
Following yesterday s countrywide power outage, the Belize Electricity Limited issued an updated news release today saying that it has completed its work of restoring the entire country back on the national grid. B-E-L says that at 6:41 yesterday evening, it restored power to the Northern Zone after Comision Federal de Electricidad completed scheduled maintenance on its system and reconnected Belize to its grid. The Western, Central, and Southern zones were restored at 5:40 yesterday evening, using power from the gas turbine and the Mollejon Hydroelectric Plant. B-E-L says that the outage occurred at 7:30 yesterday morning after a fault on the transmission line resulted in the disruption of power supply from both the Mollejon plant and the gas turbine unit. B-E-L says it has determined that the fault resulted from a failed lightning arrester on the transmission line at Westlake Substation, which was difficult to locate. B-E-L expresses regret for the inconvenience and assures their customers that it will try to minimize the number and duration of power outages.
