discussion among friends...

Attorney Norman Neal lost his fight against multiple afflictions and succumbed to them yesterday morning. Bogues specialized as a Legal Draftsman but shortly after starting his private practice he started losing his eyesight to a rare disease - so rare that his case was taken on by world renown medical universities and hospitals. His eyesight deteriorated progressively until he became legally blind a few years ago. During the last year he was diagnosed with multiple cancers and passed away this morning. Bogues was a kind and caring soul who always looked after others before himself. Rest in peace Bogues!!

I agree with you in everything except the rarity of the disease he suffered. while at UCB/UB I was contact person for several university hospitals and medical schools that invited him up for evaluations and diagnosis. His was not the regular degenerative disease which leads eventually to blindness. Anyhow that is really beside the point. He was a great guy and a dear friend.

Didn't he also work in what might have been the first Legal Aid office a long time ago?

That he did - he might have been the pioneer in that office - that along with many, many, many etc. pro bono cases. As was pointed out, his fees were not very high on his list of priorities and I am sure he still has many outstanding receivables.

The Passing of Two Noted Men

And before we go to break we note the passing of two recognized men.

On Saturday, June 15, fifty-nine year old Attorney Norman "Bogues" Neal passed away. During his career he served as a Magistrate and Crown Counsel with Government prior to going into private practice and was also Director of the Legal Aid Services Center.

Neal was said to be suffering from two forms of cancer and passed away at his home in Belize City. Neal is survived by two sons, a daughter, brothers, sisters and numerous relatives and friends. He will be laid to rest on Friday at the Wesley Methodist Church.

Joey Clarke was another noted individual who had come to make Belize his home. He died last night in Belize City of a massive heart attack.

The 47 year old British born dramatist married Senator Lisa Shoman in 2009 and quickly made a name for himself in Belize. He Wrote, directed and acted in: Devish, Trea$ure and The Best Medicine Directed and acted in Rotary's Patrick Brown's Class of 63.

Clarke's first play, The Champion was written and staged in 1986, and since then he wrote seven other full-length plays, which have been presented, to critical success in both Trinidad and Jamaica.

Clarke was a well-known and acclaimed director, play-writer and performer in St Lucia, Trinidad and Jamaica before coming to Belize.
