Coffee table book has eagle's eye view of Belize

[Linked Image] If you want to keep your Christmas gifts local, check out a new publication of landscapes and unique sceneries that became available today. Photographer Marius Jovaisa along with several Belizean enthusiasts released the coffee table book entitled Heavenly Belize that features aerial photographs of the country from a bird eye's view. The photographs were taken from an experimental ultra-light aircraft designed for aerial photography. Heavenly Belize, which also features captions written by Stewart Krohn, took over a year to put together. According to Amin Hegar, who is the owner of the two hundred thousand dollar aircraft used to shuttle Jovaisa; the book is a must have for Belizeans and tourists.

Amin Bedran, Provided Air-Cam

"The name came up, it was the photographer Marius Jovaisa, he just came and flew over Belize and the clouds and the sun-I think you will see a picture in Heavenly Belize, I think it is the first page-and it looked like the heavens and he fell in love with Belize from his first trip and will be coming back again."

Duane Moody

"The number of tourists coming to Belize has declined. Do you feel that this is going to boost that with people seeing what is here to offer in Belize?"

Amin Bedran

"Certainly, even us here in Belize if we noh talk bout di tourist side of it, looking at Belize from a bird's eye view is totally different. I never had the chance to do it before. In an ultra light it's totally different than an enclosed plane. It flies slower and you get to see a lot more than you would in the regular conventional little plane."

Stewart Krohn, Writer

"It's a view of Belize that very few people have ever had the opportunity to experience. We know that Belize is a great place for photographers-local and foreign-the country photographs beautifully. But until you see some of the landmarks, some of the reefs, the Bluehole, Victoria Peak, the Macal River, various lagoons; until you see them from above you really haven't experience everything there is to see in Belize. I think the best shot in the book is an aerial view over the Chalillo reservoir and it's a flock of scarlet macaws. Now sure scarlet macaws have been photographed before, but you never see a scarlet macaw photographed from above with the light shining on its colorful back. Usually you see them from underneath, but when you see them from underneath all you see is an outline because the sun is behind them. so this photograph and a lot of the others, it presents an entirely different angle on Belize."

Stewart Krohn wrote the descriptions of the photographs. The book is available for one hundred and twenty-five Belize dollars and will be available in stores shortly.

Ahmen Bedran presents Minister Heredia with the first issue of "Heavenly Belize

"This book stirred deep within my soul the commitment to guard our natural resources!" - Minister of Tourism. Hon. Manuel Heredia.

On Wednesday, December 9, the long awaited publication, "Heavenly Belize", was released. Ahmen Bedran explained how the project got started. He purchased an ultra light aircraft. The aircraft was designed for national geographic purposes in Africa;

however, Bedran bought it and brought it to Belize. He then hired a pilot capable of flying ultra light aircrafts, Ben Friesen, to operate the plane. The idea evolved to expose Belize's natural beauty both inland and at sea. Lithuanian Marius Jovaisa was hired.

Jovaisa was born in 1973. His first album was a best seller released in 2008 called "Unseen Lithuania". "Heavenly Belize" is his second album. Though he was not present at the launch, he wrote a note to address those in attendance. In the note he said that during the project "I unintentionally fell in love with Belize." He travelled all across the country capturing the true beauty of Belize.

Hon. Manuel Heredia, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture, said, "Belizeans have referred to the country as the "Jewel". Now with the marvelous pictorial accomplishments of this book, I believe that we will now have another name dear to us, "Heavenly Belize." Bedran thanked the Minister because he was a strong supporter of the project.

Hon. Manuel Heredia received the first copy of "Heavenly Belize". The book contains many pictures of Belize that have never been shot before. It is available for $125 each at the office of the Belize Tourism Board. Orders of 5 to 100 are available for $100 each.

The Jewel gets a new name - from a book of pictures

Belize the Jewel is about to get a new label- Heavenly Belize.

This is the name pilot-photographer Marius Jovaisa chose for his book of photographs about Belize. Last Wednesday, December 9, he released the first copy, presenting it to Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia, at a ceremony at the Radisson Fort George Hotel

The book is about landscapes and seascapes of breath-taking beauty by Lithuanian photographer Marius Jovaisa, who is also a publisher, and author of documentary films.

Jovaisa's first epic work, Unseen Lithuania published last year, quickly became a bestseller.

Heavenly Belize, his second big album of aerial pictures, seems destined for a similar success. Jovaisa's one-man photographic exhibitions have been featured in Australia, Argentina the Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and Spain, as well as in the United States.

The photographs of Belize were taken from an experimental ultra-light aircraft designed for aerial photography. The aircraft is owned by Amin Bedran of Maya Flats Limited Belize. He is a distributor for the book.

Minister of Tourism, Hon Manuel Heredia, received the first copy of the book, and proclaimed that it was a marvelous pictorial accomplishment.

The book is full of beautiful glossy pictures of the Barrier Reef, the Blue Hole, the Chalillo reservoir, various lagoons, and rivers and other "heavenly" areas of the country.

"I hope that in this book I have successfully conveyed the country's special attractions. Have an inspiring flight above Heavenly Belize!"Jovaisa said.

"After viewing the beauty of Belize from the cockpit of a soaring ultra light aircraft, I could not help but share this spectacular vision with the world. I fell in love with Belize against my will."

Marius Jovaisa was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1973. His skills as a pilot and as a photographer have taken him around the world and assured his place in the art world.

His book, Heavenly Belize, is being sold for $125 at the Belize Tourism Board and will be available in stores shortly. To buy a copy of the book, please contact Ahmin Bedran at 824-3255.

Heavenly Belize launched in SP

It was officially launched in December of 2009, but on Monday night, Heavenly Belize, was introduced to the San Pedro community during a book launching held at the Holiday Hotel. Lithuanian author and photographer, Marius Jovaisa, took a little over a year to compile thousands of pictures which were published in his third book which highlights Belize. Through his camera lens, Jovaisa described Belize's never ending beauty via photographs of the country's land, water, people, flora and fauna.

A Marketing Manager by profession, Jovaisa stated that he moved into photography books and publishing in 2006 when he first published his book, "Tranquilia: The land of Peace." After falling in love with aerial photography, in 2008 after nine months of work, Jovaisa published his second project called Unseen Lithuania, a book featuring only aerial pictures of his home country Lithuania. Jovaisa told The Sun that he began thinking of another place in the world to make his third book and explained that his third book, "Heavenly Belize" was born from a visit he made to Belize in August of 2008 on the invitation of his friend Robert Combs of Hawaii. "Combs invited me to see and experience the nice and beautiful country and to experiment with a plane which they flew to the country and was utilized for several purposes," stated Jovaisa. While in Belize Jovaisa got the opportunity of flying on an ultra-light aircraft called an air-cam which is built especially for videography and photography by the requirement of National Geography. During his first flyover in Belize, organized by the owner of the plane Amin Bedran, Jovaisa stated that he was impressed with the aerial scene and fell in love with Belize. "It all fell into one place: nice, beautiful country; very friendly and warm people; size of the country is not too big; air-cam suitable and perfect for photography, so I decided that my next project will be on Belize," stated a very excited Jovaisa.

After his first visit to Belize, Jovaisa made over five other work visits and captured thousands of pictures of Belize's water including lagoons, rivers, dams, islands, atolls, reefs, sea and the impressive and unique Blue Hole; its land which include the mountains, hills, peaks, valleys and various well known areas. Jovaisa also included a section called cities; ancient and modern where he featured Belize's Mayan Ruins, the cities, towns and various rural areas. The book also details various portraits of the many faces, ethnic groups and people of Belize as well as the flora and fauna that Belize boasts. All the pictures inside the book include a brief description of the content, written with the help of Stuart Krohne of Placenia and Sharon Matola of the Belize Zoo.

But how was the name "Heavenly Belize" born? Jovaisa stated that he wanted the name of the book to compliment the theme that Belize is presenting itself to the world, "Be one with Belize." "I think that the book is giving some really heavenly perception of Belize. Much of Belize remains pretty much unspoiled when compared to surrounding countries, so Belize is like a heavenly peace in this part of the world," stated Jovaisa. Ironically Jovaisa explained that the description of Belize as being "heavenly" tracks back to a description given by well known profession of geopolitics Kazy's Pakspas. According to Jovaisa during the Soviet occupation of Lithuania, Pakspas made contact with the then Governor of Belize after which he attempted to convince his country people that the only next perfect place for Lithuanians to live would be in "Heavenly Belize." It was not until after his publication of the book that Jovaisa became aware of such piece of information through the media back in his country. When asked about the challenges to compile his book, Jovaisa explained that it was nature itself. "Nature itself was the biggest challenge. Nature can be unpredictable and can change so quickly. Because I wanted consistency in photographing the scene, most of the pictures were taken at a time when the sun was above the horizon, either at sunrise or sunset," explained the author.

The book is available at various bookstore and gift shops across the country and orders can be placed online by visiting the website at www.heavenlybelize.com Javaisa explained that he plans to return and conduct other work in Belize in the future.
