A series of fights broke out yesterday at a softball game in Ontario Village. According to information reaching plus news the first incident took place when police on duty at the game approached some young men from the village who were drinking and smoking. The police reportedly told the young men that such activity cannot take place at the grounds, an argument ensued and one of the men got in a fight with the police and beat him up.
The police mobile from Belmopan was called in but when the mobile reached on scene the police that had been beaten up told the officers to only give the guys a warning. The mobile left without making any arrests and shortly after another fight broke out. This fight involved both off and on duty police officers, civilians, and a BDF soldier who was at the game. Plus news was informed that one of the on duty officers' fired several shots in the air in an attempted to break up the crowd however that didn't pacify the situation.
We understand that a high ranking police officer who was at the game then jumped in with a baseball bat and started hitting people as his brother was being beaten. In the process of lashing out, reports are that he accidentally hit his brother in the head with the baseball bat and he had to be transported to the hospital for medical attention. We tried getting information from Belmopan Police, and organizers of the event as to what exactly took place yesterday but no one was willing to share information on the matter. The beat-down took place in the village of Ontario shortly after 4pm yesterday evening during the second inning of the game.
The game wasn't completed due to the unfortunate turn of events.
