Pratt & Whitney is one of the world's largest jet and turboprop manufacturers, and the maker of the PT6 Engine, which powers Tropic Air's fleet of modern glass cockpit Cessna 208 Caravans. Pratt & Whitney also recently recognized the Company with a special commemorative engine.

The specially selected PT6 engine was fitted with a 24k gold data plate to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic engine series, and will be installed on one of Tropic Air's Caravans during its routine and scheduled engine change later this month.

Tropic Air is part of a Pratt & Whitney maintenance program that sees the current engines replaced with new ones at regular intervals in order to maintain the most up to date and energy efficient engines in its fleet. Certified Belizean aircraft engineers at Tropic Air's maintenance facility in San Pedro carry out these engine replacements and avionic upgrades, along with other Cessna maintenance programs.

"Our customers have been ecstatic about receiving these commemorative engines," said Ismail Mokabel, General Manager, Pratt & Whitney Canada Leasing LP. "Tropic Air became a Pratt & Whitney customer in 1988. We no longer feel like a vendor, but like a family member."

"We couldn't be happier with the products, the support or the company. It is our high honor to participate in P&WC's 50th PT6 anniversary with the gold plated engine," said John E. Greif III, President, Tropic Air Ltd.
