Customs officers to stand trial for missing container Three customs officers have been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court for Forgery. Aruny Perez, Carl Augustine and Michael McKenzie are charged in connection with a container of pseudo-ephedrine which arrived in Belize in September of 2008 and then disappeared into thin air. The officers were accused of forgery after the container went missing from the Port Authority Compound. The cargo was removed at a time when customs officials were attempting to establish a mechanism to avert this type of wrongdoings. Perez, Augustine and McKenzie were on duty when the container left the Port compound and investigations revealed that forged documents were used to facilitate its release. Senior Customs officers became aware that something was wrong when the container was released after normal working hours and the accused officers signed off the job at the end of the working day. The container was consigned to Reimer's Feed Mill but Reimer's was not expecting any shipment. The container was released to a man who went by the name Howell Hutchinson of Crooked. Hutchinson, along with businessman Hilberto Marchand later handed over themselves to police.
