The Inspiration Center (their motto is, aptly, Where Hope Lives) was founded in 2014 by our Prime Minister's wife, The First Lady of Belize, Kim Simplis-Barrow to help some of the most vulnerable children in Belize. The facilities are located just outside of Belize City.

Today, its 19 staff members (including one doctor, one speech therapist and one physical therapist) help kids from all over the country - both at the center and with community outreach. They encourage early diagnosis and see babies as young as one month old to gauge hearing and physical abilities. They help the kids, teach the parents and the communities. And their waiting list is long.

They are having a benefit here in San Pedro. And I hope that everyone who is able can help in some way. June 18th, 7pm to 11pm at the Mahogany Bay Great House.

Dress code is Evening Casual WHITE. Think white slacks and a white button down, or a simple white dress. This is not a super formal event.

Tickets are available at Ramon's Village, El Fogon and Rum + Bean Coffee Shop at Mahogany Bay. ALL proceeds will go directly to the Inspiration Center.

At 8pm, food will be served. Tables/food are being donated by Belcampo Lodge in Punta Gorda, by Ian Anderson's Farm House Deli, by Victoria House, by Rojo Beach Bar & Lounge, by AmberGreens, the gorgeous aquaponics green house on the Mahogany Bay property and by the TacoShack, also part of Mahogany Bay. From 9pm to 11pm, there will be a band called The Tequila Shootersrock n roll and dancing.

There will be a raffle at the event as well.

Inspiration Center Fundraiser raises over $100K

Wearing their finest all-white ensembles, guests made their way to the Great House at Mahogany Bay Village, Curio Collection by Hilton, where a night of fundraising for the Inspiration Center took place. Despite a call for rain, the Saturday, June 18th night was clear and perfect, just right for a night of honoring some of Belize's most vulnerable, our children. Funds are needed to sustain the outpatient rehabilitation center in Belize City, which aids children with disabilities from all over the country, including Ambergris Caye.

While the bar provided refreshing drinks, the kitchens of Victoria House, Rojo Beach Bar, Ambergreens Aquaponics, Taco Shack, BelCampo, El Fogon, Ian Anderson's Caves Branch and Elvi's Kitchen served delicious food. The Tequila Shooters band provided great live music, and during breaks, talented DJ Dzl spun tunes to keep the dance floor filled till the wee hours of the morning.

There were silent auctions up for bidding, and thanks to the generous attendees, many were bid to full value. Cash donations were plentiful, and at the end of the evening, after the final tally, over $100,000 was raised for The Inspiration Center. The non-profit organization joins its little patients in thanking all the hard-working volunteers, sponsors and everyone who attended for their contributions.
