When I heard this news, I was getting visions of Ronald Reagan in 1981 when he fired over 11,000 air traffic controllers.

Apparently the problem is being resolved, passengers at International messaging that they have been delayed, but will leave today. Delta from LA landed in Honduras for refuelling should be in it's way to Belize now.

The San Pedro Sun can confirm that the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport is currently closed to air traffic. This follows several calls from employees of the Civil Aviation Authority, specifically Air Control staff who have all called in sick. So far two international flights destined for Belize have been diverted to El Salvador today. The San Pedro Sun will continue to report status updates as they unfold.

UPDATE:
In a brief press meeting the CEO of Civil Aviation Mr. Garbutt indicated that air traffic controllers from neighboring countries will be brought in to man the command tower. The first of 15 international flights is expected to land at 11:30AM.

Can't delete it now that there's been a response posted.

I think it's still news, since it's having to be operated by air traffic controllers from other countries.

Side note, anyone have a clue when the airport weather radar site will be fixed?
That "hydromet" link was by far the best for locating and predicting rain locally.

Not quick enough for some.
Your airport closed today so I was not able to make it in to the country. I will need to delay diving by one day. Can you pick me up on Monday and can we still go to the same place you planned to take me on Sunday?
