My family has been invited to spend some time in Xcalak with friends from our hometown, however, it seems that Ambergris Cay would be a better place to stay and perhaps we could just visit Xcalak for a day or two. In order to get to Xcalak we must fly to Cancun and drive/bus to Xcalak. If we were to fly to AC exactly what is the name of the airport to give the travel agent for our destination. Thanks in advance.
you must fly into Belize City (mainland), the international airport there is Philip Goldston (sp?)then you will get on a MUCH SMALLER PLANE to fly to AC....AC is an island and Tropic Air or Mayan are the 2 "airlines" LOL that fly to AC
I get the distinct feeling that MUCH SMALLER PLANE indicates something less than desirable??? If the flight is only 20 minutes long, however, how bad could it be? Have you ever taken the water taxi? Much cheaper, but probably has its drawbacks too. Thanks for your help.
no, you have that part wrong. the little planes are just fine, only smaller, like 10 seaters. the views of the reef as you fly there are amazing, and well worth the flight.
also, just use "belize international", and that should be enuff.
yes, have done the water taxi, not very comfortable. my opinion you should take Tropic Air...the view is beautiful...and yes, they are 10-12 seater propeller planes..still MUCH smaller than a jet.
I did Tropic Air and loved it! If you sit in the seat right behind the pilot you will have your very own personal tour guide! I've been on many airlines and those pilots are probably the best I've seen!
Yes you can fly over to AC on Tropic in the Cessna Caravan 14 seaters they have in their fleet. A nice run. Getting to Xcalak is another matter from here. You can get there by boat but there is no scheduled service. You'd need to charter and deal with the customs and immigration hassle. Could be quite exspensive. Xcalak is quite off of the beaten path.
I always call the little planes "Air Maybe". Seriously, I feel much better in them than a jet and the view is just great. The flight is so short, you are there before you know it!
