I remember old photos papa had from India and what's today Bangladesh. Coastlines covered with cane sticks. Apparently they used weathered cane as stakes to establish aquatic plants, (might have been mangrove) to deter errosion and flooding. That was accomplished manually then, and reminds me of this proceedure.
