I'm giving thought to buying a boat. While I was in SP 3 weeks ago Gas at the Texaco pier was well over $7.00 per gallon but I did not notice if they supplied diesel fuel as well. Do they or is it available anywhere on AC & what is cost per gallon? Would also be interested in opinions on which is best gas or diesel. I have no intention of really getting out to deep sea but would like to run the coast line from Cancun & south of AC. Any suggestions or opinions are appreciated.

Deisel is available most places in Belize. Fuel is very expensive in Belize and enters into deciding what type of boat you plan to purchase. I have found that boats are like women. You will have a hard time finding one that will do everything you want it to. laugh

Pete Graniel has been running a single engine diesel for fishing the Belize waters for some time now. You check with him on his thoughts. I think that would be high on my list if I were planing to do alot of fishing over long distances like from Cancun to southern Belize.

I fish with twin 150hp outboards on a 25 foot boat and can tell you it is not hard to burn $150-200US a day when fishing hard all day long.

Diesel in Belize is usually about a third less than gas. I think I usually paid about BZE$5 a gallon for diesel in July.

Diesel is currently $5.50 BZ per gallon at the Texaco station on the lagoon.

Yes, it does. So, aside from anticipating your response, I also anticipated that there might be some come forth that said things like: For my single 250 hpon my 20', etc. I use X. or For my 50 hp on my etc. etc.

seashell: you can go to the web pages of outboard motor manufacturers and get the info you are asking about. Example:http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/otb/perfbull/performance_02.html

As I stated, if I go fishing for a day with my 25ft Mako and twin 150hp Yamahas, I plan a couple hundred US. That takes into consideration running to where I want to fish, trolling most of the day, and running back in time for cocktail hour. smile

PS: Pedro, 6 gallons per minute? That is the kind of boat I wish I could afford.
