so, I'm wondering... can one wander up and down the entire length of the caye? or are there private/restricted beaches? or... can you hang-out anywhere along the beach?

(do many/any places have no-smoking areas?)

In Belize, the first 60 feet of beach from the water line is queensland/public access. Piers are public access 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., unless you're misbehaving.

Our first trip to AC we stayed at Mayan Princess in town and enjoyed our short walks north to "the cut" and long walks south of town. For our second trip we stayed at Banyan Bay, about 2 miles south of town, and enjoyed our long walks north and our short walks south. That was two years ago and now there is even more beach development south. This year we"ll be staying north of "the cut" and in the four years of going to AC and checking on room availability and room reservations I've never been asked if I wanted a smoking or nonsmoking room or section when eating out.

Probably right, but wasn't Chis & Co suspended for a month?

No smoking is allowed in their air conditioned restaurant, El Divino. The only other air conditioned eatery on Ambergris Caye is the Stained Glass Pub. Smoking is permitted there and it smells that way, which is OK, as it IS set up as an English pub.

At El Divino there is a very popular outside seating area where diners can smoke.

Absolutely correct but you allow people from Yorkshire in your restaurant-I wonder which is worse
