Hey folks! I am new the list, but am planning my honeymoon to Ambergris for next July. I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the Victoria House and if they recommended one style of room over another. All general comments about the Victoria House are welcome, but specifically, any thoughts on the thatched-roof casitas? Thanks...

do you mean that the thatched-roof casitas will be too warm in July? even if they are air-conditioned? i heard that even though they ahve ac, it still is warm cause of the thatch and high ceiling. thanks

Short! Welcome to the board, guy!

All right gang - this is a good friend of mine that's looking to come to San Pedro for honeymoon next July. We checked out VH for them when we were there in Sept. Now he's trying to decide on room type. I did a search last night but couldn't find the specific info he was looking for. Those of you who have stayed at VH - time to pitch in! wink

ShortOne,
Never stayed in the casitas, and never been in July, but have stayed at VH about nine times and we find the resort to be top notch. Excellent staff and beautiful pool and grounds. We've usually been down in early Feb.,and this past spring in mid-May. Windy in Feb. but somtimes warm, only slightly warmer in May. We have always stayed in the main bldg.(staterooms?), and the rooms have AC and ceiling fans same as the casitas I've seen. Never had a problem with room being to hot or heard any of our friends complain about casitas. Hope this helps. TIMO

Personally I think the plantation suites are the nicest. I stayed in the 2 br villa last time and it was fab but probably more than what you need. The honeymoon suite is very nice but pricey. I have stayed in the state rooms too and they are basically a standard hotel room - one has a view and one does not - they are OK if you need to keep the cost down but still want to be at VH. The casitas are nice and more unique but I have not stayed in one myself. I would guess it also depends on where you are from and temps/humidity you are used to. But the thatched roofs generally do not stay as cool as solid roofs.

Are the bathrooms basically the same in all the rooms? Do they all have bathtubs as opposed to just showers?

The 2 bedroom villa I stayed in just had a shower but a large (huge) gorgeous one!
