We're going to AC from April 4 - 14th and staying at Exotic Caye /Playador. I was reading that a while back that strip of beach was notorious for some mugging style attacks. Just wondering how things are there these days and how careful we should be. Not planning on shining any bling-bling around but nonetheless I need to know.

Notorious in San Pedro is that a couple of incidents happened in a darkened area nearby. This issue was addressed by several resorts along that area, and there have been no problems since.

Use common sense. An older person or a single female is always considered a possible victim anywhere.

Our definition of crime is a far cry from most places, but don't do stupid things.

OK thanks, totally understand keeping a low profile. BTW is there a place to buy 'liquid refreshments' to have in the room, say rum or the like?

Don't worry about it unless you are coming home really late, and shall I say, impaired. Then, the main roads may be better. I take off and hike at the crack of dawn and have never had a problem. Really late may be a problem, so get a taxi or walk the main streets. Overall, it's a pretty safe place.

We stayed at EC and never had any trouble...I ran every morning towards the south end of the island, and never felt unsafe at all.

Just got home today. Stayed at EC and walked the beach to and from town at night. No trouble. Altho the first time it was a bit creepy because it was so dark and I was not familiar with the layout. But again, just use common sense and have a good time.

Take a small efficient flash light when going out at night. I used a small led that uses one aa verry light and small but almost blinding light in the eyes. It's made by n"brinkmann" and it's 5 in. long and 1 and a half in di. like a little tube. Go have fun and don't worry about it. We'll miss you by two days, we'll be a banana beach the 16 thru 30th april. Before you leave put an x in the sand and when I get there I'll erase it. Danny
