seems much more expensive than calling stateside from Belize--does anyone have any tips on ways to cut costs calling SP,I simply went thru my local carrier on my landline and paid $ 35 for about 12 minutes,is this normal ?

Yikes! There are several websites where you can purchase callilng cards online and they email you the code. That's what I've always used and it runs about 7 cents a minute.

I have a plan for $12 per month added onto the phone bill, anywhere in the US is free for 1,000 minutes per month and Belize and other foreign Countries is $.03 per minute. We have the cable tv, internet and phone with one company.

I use skype to call Belize from US. 2cents a minute. Go to Skype.com and sign up. Works great from this end. You will need a head set to plug into your computor.
