Hi everyone. New the board and I will be traveling to Belize the 2nd week of September after Labor Day. (Took advantage of the $200 tickets from Houston).

Anyway, I noticed that Conch is out of season during this time. Does this mean I will not be able to find conch anywhere on the island or in any restaurants? Thanks!

Please, anyone correct me if I am wrong but I believe you can still get conch for your personal use. If take a fishing charter they will most times be happy to get a conch or two for your shore lunch. If you are interested?

They might do that for you, but it is still illegal, no such law for personal use.

I don't think much of any fishing guide that is going to offer you conch or lobster that is out of season......I've had it happen to me and flat out refused and never used the guide again.

Conch is out of season, however that doesn't stop the taking of them. I witness local conch fishermen within the Bacalar Chico Reserve taking conch (yesterday was the latest) a few times a week. This is within a "No take Zone" for ANYTHING. Laws are not always applied evenly. I agree with Al, if you are offered conch or lobster out of season, don't use the guide, hotel or restaurant again. We need to be responsible for our own eating, Therefor I don't eat conch or lobster anymore. I am tired of seeing these beautiful creatures taken when they have not had a chance to make babies. The choice is yours.
