The seaweed grows there for a reason. Do not disturb delicate aquaculture just because you want something that visually appeals to you. If it washes up on the beach, then, yes, it is raked all the time. It is absurd to think you could, or should, be able to remove living organisms of any kind from the water.

Yes, if you get a permit. But if you do be prepared for beach erosion.

The town board has been bulldozing the beaches North of Journeys end for the last few days. Its changed the look of that area and will be an erosion mess soon. Its hard to be even a little sensitive with a Dozer and they are the guys that issue permits.
The turtle grass and vegetation on the beach are holding the island together and you'll loose several yards of your property from the wave action in future storms. My advice is leave it and try and appreciate its beauty. Its fertile habitat for tons of interesting life and for gods sake don't look to the Town Board for an example even though they issue the permits and permissions they obviously know zip about it.

Do you need a permit if hand dredged? ie A man a spade and a canoe.

If you want to see the affect drive past the High School where they dredged too close to shore. Then a little further South where they dug out a swimming area two (?) years ago and lost 30 linear feet of beach in no time. Bad idea. Also the dredged area often fills with nasty fine silt that feels like mud rather than nice sand.

Swim (snorkle) over the top of the sea grass. You will be amazed at what you can see. You may even pick up a conch for dinner.
