I will be arriving at AC middle of March and need some help with fishing questions. Is there a fishing license needed? Can I fish from shore? Also guide preferences, Deep Sea and Sport/Reef

Try doing a search on "fishing" with the search tool, and you'll find everything you need. There's also a section of the main website (using the menu on the left panel) that has a ton of fishing info....just click on 'fishing' from the main page.

No, you don't need a fishing license. Yes, you can fish from shore or some piers, but the catch is usually spotty. Reef fishing guides that are highly competent and fun: Severo Guerrero, 226-2324; Ramon Guerrero, 226-2325. Deep sea fishing guide who is 2 time winner of fall billfish tournament: Pete Graniel, 226-2584 - also one of the most reasonably priced deep sea guides. Happy catch...

There is some fantastic fishing in the cayes ! I've done well catching bonefish right on the beach right near the rio. During the sunrise of the day i flyfish hitting the areas on the flats bare of turtle grass. Small shrimp imitations, and crazy charlies work out well. Then during the night when the tide is in, many of the reef fish come into near the beach searching for food sources. Light spinning gear and natural bait is more efficient than flies then lures in the darkness. Conch and sardines are deadly. The mula conch or horse conch is wonderful bait, it is smelly and it is tough and hard to get picked off the hook. My favorite fishing guide is Geraldo Badillo and Justo. I have used his services for 21 years, and no problems at all. He is a great guy, and he is a real aquaman ! He lives down on the lagoon. Tel #226-2264. This is one mans opinions and way of fishing, but you will find your own ways, that is the nature of fishing................
