I do not know where the aquarium is, but I was taken there on the Manatee tour with Searious Adventures. It was the last snorkeling stop. All I know is that you were able to stand in the water,it was very clear and there were alot of nursey sharks and sting rays and the water was extremely warm.

Here are two pictures of the area:

The aquarium is a dive site off of Long Caye at Lighthouse reef. It is a magnificent dive site that starts out in about 30 feet of water and on the western edge has a wall that drops off a couple of thousand feet. In the shallows you will see things like Eagle Rays, Turtles, and hundreds of schooling fish. At the drop off you often see pelagic's such as Whale sharks, Manta Rays, Hammerheads etc.... Truly one of the best dive sites in the country if not the world.

Jackie, I looked at your pics and that is definitely not the Aquarium site - as Travelin MAn says it is at Lighthouse Reef Atoll - great diversity and teeming with fishes there. I think maybe the local guides on San Pedro may call Hol Chan or Shark Ray Alley the aquarium too...anyone know?

Hi Fry69;
I'm not sure which aquarium you are inquiring about, but Alan Forman
used to have an aquarium under the bar at the end of the warf called
the Tackle Box. Don't know if its still there! frown

I went on the manatee trip also with Searious and I'm pretty sure they guide called it the Aquarium also. I know it wasn't out by Lighthouse Reef. I also know it wasn't acutally Shark Ray Alley but I think it was somewhere near there. We didn't have to pay the "park" fee like you do at the alley or Hoi Chan and the water wasn't deep at all. Many nurse sharks and rays. Now, I'm curious as to what it/where it is as I was concentrating more on whether or not to get into the water with the sharks or not at the time or to stay in the boat and guard the beer and rum ; )

Gail,
I am not the only one that the guide had told that too. That is why I called it the Aquarium, that was not shark-ray alley that he took us to.
Where is Lan the Man when you need him??

The only site that I know as the Aquarium was out at the Atolls. Absolutley amazing site. I think it was probably the same site that an earlier poster mentioned. However, it began at 15'. I know this because when we were ascending to return to the boat, everyone else got back on board and while they were doing that, I took a nice long leisurely and fabulously enjoyable safety stop. Amazing. I saw large trumpet fish pair, scrawled cowfish and a plethora of other fish. Sometimes it seemed that the schools were so thick, you couldn't see other divers.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

There is also a site off of Caye Caulker where the Caulker guides take you to see sharks and rays, a bit shallower than Shark Ray so maybe that's it. Still curious...
