OK....
While VP of BETA (Belize Eco-Tourism Association) we attempted an adopt-a-highway program. It worked for the clean-up but wasn't a continued project. It did clean up the Western Highway, for a while at least.
We also came up with the phrase "Beta No Litta".
Ambergris Caye finds itself at the end of the Caribbean, the Western shore of the Western Caribbean. Thus a lot of trash from other Islands and Mexico float on down to our lovely shores.
I would recommend we set-up a little group of residents and business owners, nothing too formal (ugh), the last thing we need is another association.
Then we can cut up the length of the island, or most of it, into sections. We'll need to determine the size or length of each section.
We may want to charge folks an adoption fee and use this for advertising reasons and then have them and their employees (if a business) go out and do a massive clean-up on a Sunday.
Kick this around and shoot back some ideas on the thread.
