Has anyone on the board purchased a condominium and wish to share the experience? I'm just looking, and I'd like to hear from those of you who took the plunge, where you bought, and the pros and cons of your decision as you see it. Thanks in advance!

Belizelaw,
My wife & I purchased one in February. They were just breaking ground for the foundation at the time and it will not be compete until May 2006. Things move slow on AC, that's why we like it so much. We're going down the end of this month and again in October. We'll be selecting tile, cabinets, etc. Other than being excited as hell for it to be complete, we have very little experience to share. Prepare to spend $265+ per square foot. Our's is in a nine unit complex. The builder is taking 3 of them. One for his primary residence and the other two for guests and family. I like the idea of the builder being one of the owners! Thinks get done! If interested, you can contact me at [email protected] and I'll give you the name of the contractor and email you some pictures.

I'm happier than a pig in s__t...a foot on the sand...and a Belikin in my hand!

Wow, US$265 a square foot! Who would have thought!? And you can still build a nice concrete house in Corozal for US$35 or $40 a foot.

Lan: Give us some examples of that. Have you done this? Seen costs of buildings built for US$35- US$40 per square foot? Complete? Including land and other improvements (as in a condo)? Everything I've ever seen says that is IMPOSSIBLE!!!

First off - you need to understand that beach front is now running $400, US per beach foot. So you have to take how many units are on a lot and figure that cost in.
Lagoon lots are not as much but not cheap and they can be really nice.
After you figure the cost of land you can they start thinking about building cost - remember - everything has to be brought out here by barge. Then if you are north of the cut it has to be barged, along with vehicles to transport it once the barge is docked, to the property.
The laborers still are not paid much considering what the cost of living is for them here.
But all of this is only money. The real issue here is time!!!
Before you pick a builder or a project ask around about their previous projects. Quality of work is very important here. If money is no problem and you really don't care how long it takes to have your place completed - then you can sit back and join the gringos laughing and drinking their Belikins.

Clarification -
Beachfront property on the windward side of AC is more like $1,500 USD - 4,000 USD per front foot (not $400), depending on the location and depth of the parcel of land.
