I am trying to pick a hotel in Ambergris Caye for our trip to Belize. I came across Mata Chica and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about the hotel or could suggest some place else to stay. Trying to keep our budget low but would like to stay in a nice resort.

It's just nice. Once you stay there and get the feel for the place you can't help but relax and enjoy. The people around the pools (two) are usually fun and easy to get to know. Great free breakfast in morning to get started. Nice little store across the street to get the belikin beer or coffee or other little items. Golf carts on site to rent by day or hour. I could go on and on, but I won't.

Banana Beach has some nice budget rooms that come with a breakfast. Lots of space and amenities of a mid-range resort (travel/gift shop, good restaurant on property, full kitchens, pool, security, etc.) and is reasonably well located. It is a good value if that is what you are looking for. They also had some of the hardest mattresses I have slept on anywhere and were unable to change us into anything better (supposedly all were the same).
I give it B+ for the value factor. Certainly there are nicer places to stay but you will pay accordingly.

We go in Sept so the crowds are not an issue; had the beach and pools to ourselves most days; Absolutely love the staff - they remembered us by name our second year; we went inside lots of rooms at lots of other places and the rooms at BB are larger than most - especially for the price; air works well (which was not true for many other places we went into or at which friends were staying); having a full kitchen was wonderful; great happy hour prices at the bar; free beach towels as often as you want . . .

I could go on and on - but that's a good start - others will chime in wink

I'm one of those who isn't terribly impressed with Banana Beach. Never stayed there, probably never will. It just screams 'motel' to me, as opposed to most other places on the island. I wouldn't tell anyone not to stay there, I know there are some really good deals to be had. I'm also one of those who prefers to be closer to town....

I know the subject was mata chica.info ,can not share with you any info as I have never stayed there .but I need to give my feed back what was said above.I have stayed at banana beach is a super nice property .there are some very good reasons people go to banana beach ,like they have all the facilities one needs , a great staff ,clean well appointed rooms.good on property restaurant /pools beach ,front desk..sun /shade/ bars plus the owner /management team sets the mood for efficient, and caring service. this insures a for great vacation..thats why the repeat factor is the highest on the island.this is no motel.but a premium resort.just my opinion.I have a condo next door and havebeen going once a month for three years.what ever place you pick?? go live the dream and enjoy..

When I was a resident of San Pedro and had friends visit,(a lot of them) I would put them up at Banana Beach because it had everything a well appointed resort should have. In my opinion, IT'S TOPS!
