We (2 families, 6 kids under 11) are coming for 10 days at the end of November. We are staying at Calm Caye and Coco Caye Villas, I know they are out of town but we are really laid back and looking forward to just relaxing on the beach. Should we rent the big golf carts for the entire time or utilize the water taxis the days we come to town? What about using the golf carts at night to get back north-too hard? We can't WAIT to be there!

Thanks for your help!

Certainly I recommend getting a cart.

I would even suggest one for each family.

That's ridiculous. No offence, belizegial, but do you own a cart rental company?

Hi Swmchx - you will probably enjoy having a cart during your stay at Calm Caye and Coco Caye Villas. You will need two carts to carry all of your group if you are going someplace together. (I do not own a a golf-cart company, nor do I have any close associations with anbody who does) You would probably use the cart mostly for getting to dinner spots - Caliente, Rendezvous, Rojo, Mambo, Capricorn. Going to town on the cart can be fun if the roads are in better shape than now (and in November they will probably be ok) - today the flooding rains have turned the road into an obstacle course.
Depending on the kids, you may want to rent bikes for daytime excursions to town and to other spots up and down the coast - it's a nice ride along the beach, and you can probably get to town faster on a bike than in a cart.

correction - you could possibly be ok with one of the super-size golf carts - depending on the size of the children - you will be able to determine that when you go to the rental company.

I'd like to add that it would not be advisable to try to drive a cart from town to Calm Caye at night regardless of the condition of the cart path. There is no lighting and it is just too dark for a visitor in unfamiliar territory.

When our children come down with the grandkids, we always get a cart for them in addition to the one we drive. There are times when the families might like to go their separate ways. You may be able to negotiate a better price if you are renting several carts. Our grandkids love to stop a Mannely's for ice cream. Have them try the coconut or sour sop.

For clarity, I meant "Do they really need to rent two carts for the whole time they are there?"

We figured we would need 2 of the 6 seaters, maybe for half the time. Thanks for the advice about night driving, we will use taxis. We also will get bikes, the kids love to ride. I can't wait for November!

seashell, Just let me say that I do not own a golf cart company.

I have just been to the island with kids and know the convenience of having a cart.

Also I have been there with other family members and know that having a cart for each family makes you independent of moving around.

Let me say that we were 3 familes staying together and each had their own cart.
