I am staying at Costa Maya Reef Resort the week of Sept. 8th.
I have read that there are bonefisih in the area.
Can anyone help with specifics? Is it possbile to wade to them from the resort?
The resort has kayaks available. Is there a place I can paddle to?
And one more thing, is it legal to fish the reef (Mexico Rocks) off Costa Maya, or is that area protected.
Thanks for any and all help!

I live next to that spot and I see Bone fish and Bone fisherman catching by just wading out about 100 feet into the sea grass.
Kayak isn't going to do much good its easer than that.
If your adventurous there is a little dock behind the hotel at the lagoon side you can walk back to and has bone fish that can be caught by wading out.
Best day might be to get a local guide to take you in his boat to the flats in back of the island.
Legal to fish Mexico Rocks? Yes it is. but you won't find Bone fish there they are at the shoreline in the shallow grassy area.
(Mexico Rocks is the Name for the area and a popular snorkeling spot at the reef.)

Hello Elbert,
Thanks for the info.
When you say a little adveterous to fish the lagoon, what makes it so?
As for Mexico Rocks I am considering bring a spinning rod so I can catch some dinner for some meals. Not for bonefish.
Thanks again!

Mexico rocks area will produce lots of snapper, some baracuda and the occasional grouper. Reef fishing is what we call it and it requires a boat to get out that far you will find the frount desk has a list of favorite guides with boats.
The adventure in the lagoon is crocadile and deep mud.
