Best deal I found was at SP Hardware, everyone pretty much sells the same bikes.

Tommy,

Make sure you get stainless steel spokes on the wheels even if you have to have a bike shop do it for you.

The OEM spokes are crap and will start to snap in no time at all with all the salt water puddles and sand around.

I found out one day while riding into town and kept hearing "ping" sounds eek, Luckly I made it to Joes bike shop and had him change out the spokes.

You could ship an aluminum bike with stainless steel wheels from the states. Bring it boxed as checked baggage. I sent one down about 2 months ago and I'll see in a few weeks how the salt air effected the bike. If you do send a bike from here make sure you look for a beach bike not a mountain bike. Also best single gear less things the sand and salt can mess up. My bike I had shipped directly to Hyde shipping in Miami who put it a boat to Belize where it cleared customs with all dues and taxes paid came to about $275US.

I would suggest your first purchase be a Belekin.

You usually get to choose from regular or stainless steel spokes.
Get stainless.

The bike will then need to be taken to somebody to grease up all the moving parts with heavier than usual gunk. The hardware stores don't do that part.

Get a bike-lock because they all look alike and it's more than easy to have somebody ride off with yours.

You'll find far better quality locks at home than you'll find here. Remember that you need to lock the frame to something immovable, and ideally the wheels to the frame (though that last doesn't really matter if you're just getting a cruiser). If you get a bike that's visibly better than the other bikes around be sure to keep it well locked at all times, as it will be targetted.

The sand and salt together conspire to destroy a bike. Avoid cables if at all possible, use rustless ones if you have to have them, keep the bearings well greased (don't forget the pedals, which get more abuse than the rest of the bike). Keep all bearings properly tight, so as better to resist grit getting in and destroying them. After riding through floods make sure the pedal bearings especially are well lubricated.

If you have a frame made of mild steel, it's a very good idea to keep well greased the interior of the steerer tube, especially where it joins the front forks. I've seen several nasty accidents where that part has rusted through and failed.
