I've been collecting Belize info in the hope I can visit next year...have not decided on a locale, but I'm most interested in snorkeling and kayaking. Can anyone tell me if there are any regulations or restrictions governing jet ski use. Where are they *most* prevalent; *least* prevalent; is there any place they are not allowed at all? Is there any place where there is absolutely no chance I will see or hear one single jet ski? Thanksabunch!

Personally, I'm of the opinion that if you chained enough jet skis together, and added the proper amount of concrete block, one could make an ideal artificial reef. But, if you must have them, you will be able to rent one, or several, on AC. Fortunately, not too many people have an interest, and they mostly gather dust at the dock.

The farther north you stay will give you a better chance of not seeing or hearing jetskis. The resorts up there do get requests and we have been known to take them up there for them. Since we are the ones that rent the jetskis, we do try to keep them south of Ramons and North of Victoria House. I have found with most of my renters that they go to an outer area and stay around there to play. We do have strict rules and areas that they can go but unfortunately some people don't follow the rules. Hope this helps.

LOL...I have to agree with Edd. I see no use for them in a place like San Pedro. There is plenty to do without adding that much noise pollution to the environment. I like the idea of a reef made from them. [Linked Image]

Guess I should clarify...somewhere on this board I saw the words "jet skis" and I had an AAAAAKKKKKKKK attack! Except maybe in the Great Jet Ski Graveyard of the Ocean, seeing/hearing a jet ski could very easily ruin any peaceful reef cruising in or on top of the water -- noise polution, waves, scaring the wildlife, the impact on a reef environment could be ruinous -- ask me how I *really* feel!!!! I'm sorry "Barefoot", I know you're just trying to make a living; I just don't want to spend my vacation anywhere in the vicinity of a jet ski. Is there any place where they are simply not allowed? Sign me LOL, little ol' lady!

Reef Crusier, truth is the jet skis really aren't much of a problem. Yes, several places have them for rent, but they don't get much action and the renters do a good job of keeping them limited to outside the shore area. This is really a non-issue.

I agree wholeheartedly with Edd. Its a non-issue. they sure don't dominate the sound waves or anything.

Anything sounding like a waverunner or jet
ski makes me go the other direction...S. P.
is too tiny of a place to have such noise
plus, I'm sure it scares the marine life
around the docks. Snorkeling out a ways
is fun and you can see quite a few things...
but have them stir up the sand s----, well
you know what I mean!

Have to ask...did Rick over at Fido's save his 5, or are the ones Barefoot described the only ones left on the island? I seem to remember the kids playing with a few Kawasaki's on the fronside of Cholo's now and again...

WHEW! Thanks everyone ... such a relief to hear it won't be a prob! (I'd rather run into jellyfish -- at least they belong there!)
