The government of Belize today announced an increase in the price of flour.
According to a release from the supplies control unit of the Ministry of
Economic Development and Consumer Protection, effective today, the
wholesale maximum price per one hundred pound sack of "La Gitana" and "Bebe
Agua" flour, is eighty dollars. The maximum retail price per pound of soft
wheat flour as approved by government is: ninety cents in Belize City;
ninety one cents in Belmopan and Orange Walk; ninety two cents in San
Ignacio, Dangriga and Corozal; ninety three cents in Benque Viejo del
Carmen and Punta Gorda and ninety five cents in San Pedro town. The
maximum retail price per pound of Bebe Aqua hard flour is as follows:
ninety two cents in Belize City; ninety three cents in Belmopan and Orange
Walk; ninety four cents in San Ignacio and Dangriga and Corozal; ninety
five cents in Benque Viejo del Carmen and Punta Gorda, and ninety seven
cents in San Pedro Town. The government press release advises that any
person found guilty of selling flour above the controlled price is in
direct violation of the law and will be subject to a fine not exceeding a
thousand dollars or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months.

Price of flour shoots up

The Ministry of Economic Development and Consumer Protection today announced an increase in the controlled price of flour. The new retail price per pound of La Gitana household flour is now ninety cents in Belize City. In Belmopan and Orange Walk, the price is ninety-one cents while in San Ignacio, Dangriga and Corozal, it's ninety-two cents per pound. Consumers in Benque Viejo and Punta Gorda will pay ninety-three cents and San Pedro residents will pay ninety-five cents. Retail price for Bebe Agua flour is two cents more across the board. For wholesale buyers, La Gitana flour now sells for eighty dollars per hundred sack and if you buy twenty-five bags or more it's seventy-nine dollars each. For Bebe Agua flour, it's also eighty dollars per hundred pound sack and eighty-one dollars if you buy twenty-five sacks or more. The press release warns that any person found guilty of selling above the controlled prices is liable to be fined up one thousand dollars, imprisoned for up to six months or both.

Changes in the Controlled Price of Flour

Press Release - Belize Press Office - June 10th 2011 - The Supplies Control Unit in the Ministry of Economic Development, Commerce, Industry and Consumer Protection is hereby informing the general public that with effect from June 10, 2011 the Government of Belize has approved an increase of the controlled price of La Gitana soft wheat flour and the introduction of a controlled price for “Bebe Agua” Hard Wheat Flour.

Accordingly the new controlled prices for flour are as follows:

Any person found guilty of selling above the controlled price is in direct violation of the Supplies Control Regulation Chapter 293 Revised 2003 of the Laws of Belize and is subject to a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1000.00) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six (6) months, or both such fine and imprisonment.
